Yeehaw!! It’s here! My fellow Dunn County neighbors! It’s summer time in Dunn : ) After a long stretch of winter we were handed to by mother nature it’s quite the reward for enduring winter in Wisconsin! Lovely sunny warm days to enjoy with family and friends. Actually, I have a much deeper appreciation for these warm summer days verses if I lived in Florida year round. Wisconsinites are a heartier bunch than our fellow southerners. Sorry Sis, no hard feelings. And with those warm summer days and nights comes the firework displays and fun filled fairs and festivals to partake of in Dunn County. So here’s a sneak peek of what’s happening in Dunn to officially kick off the first day of Summer which is June 21st!!
The Annual Community Fireworks at Wakanda Beach is Saturday, July 1st, 2023 at dusk in which the fireworks display will be going over Lake Menomin. Sounds spectacular doesn’t it?!? So bring your lawn chairs, blankets, bug spray and munchies to enjoy the fabulous, colorful fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July with family and friends.
Let’s Paint the Town! Event is fast approaching which happens on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023 starting at 10 am until 5 pm. Up the road from Menomonie on Hwy 25 North is Wheeler, Wisconsin in which will be hosting Wheeler Days on the first weekend of August. That would be August 4th, 5th and 6th. Many fun things to do for the whole family which includes kids games, crafts, bands, food, beer tent, parade, DJ, kickball tournament and fireworks display by B&B Fireworks which is located right in Wheeler. I heard the fireworks are AWESOME! So mark your calendars for some fun on the first weekend of August for some Wheeler Days action : )
Than if you head west on Hwy 170 out of Wheeler you will be approaching into the town of Boyceville where you can find another adventure of fun at the Boyceville Cucumber Festival which starts on August 18th through the 20th, 2023. It is a three day packed festival of shows, tournaments, food vendors, parade and live music! It sounds like a lively time to meet many wonderful Dunn County neighbors and partake of the festivities. I’m thinking bread and butter pickles right now!
To wrap up the summer fun in Dunn you need to go even farther north on Hwy 25 to the Dunn/Barron county line for the 100th Annual Ridgeland Fair which commences on Labor Day weekend, September 1st through the 4th. It’s action packed with Demolition Derby, Ridgeland Nationals featuring the famous Tractor Pulls, along with a Children’s Pedal Pull, Arts and Crafts, Farmer’s Market, a 5K & 10K Fun Run, Bean Bag tournament, Draft Horse Pull, Street Dance, Stipes Carnival, and a grand parade in downtown Ridgeland on Labor Day! Now let’s talk about a different kind of fun. Strawberry picking time fun. I know, I know for some of you Dunn County neighbors it sounds like work. But it’s a fun kind of work when you think about those mouthwatering strawberries to savor for your eating pleasure or to create an incredible strawberry pie, shortcake or sauce. And what about canning some strawberry jam - Yum!! Nothing like stocking up your food pantry with lots of strawberry jam : ) My hubby makes incredible homemade bread, so topping it off with strawberry jam is the bomb!!!
So if you want to catch some rays of sun in Dunn and fill a bucket of mouthwatering strawberries than head on over to Red Cedar Valley Farm on Paradise Valley Road close to the town of Irvington. Their strawberry picking season began on June 14th, 2023 and continues to be open for your picking pleasure of incredible, edible and delicious strawberries. It’s hours are 6 am to 6 pm. The price rate is $15.00 dollars a bucket to pick your own and $20.00 for pre-picked bucket of strawberries. Whether you want to pick your own or just buy a bucket that’s ready to take home, it’s all good! And if you are REALLY into strawberries on Saturday, June 24th at 6 am they will be having their first annual Strawberry Festival!! Sounds pretty sweet to me.
