Hey! Hey! Hey! What's Up in Beautiful Dunn County!
Honoring Thy Fallen - Oh the Beautiful Knapp Hills🌄
On Monday morning, I and my husband, Steve had the opportunity to witness at Evergreen Cemetery a Memorial Day event recognizing and remembering our many men and women who have valiantly served our Country in the many battles we fought here on this choice land called the United States of America and abroad to defend and preserve our freedoms and liberties as expressed in our Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and our U.S. Constitution. It was a very beautiful, heartfelt and with awe ceremony. It was filled with beautiful hymns such as, “Nearer, My God, To Thee” and “America” which was sung by the audience as well as by Cassie Giannini who also sang solo to the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful”, the march to the lake lead by the Menomonie Honor Guard with the ceremonial casting of flowers upon the water along with many wonderful speakers that touched our hearts which helped us remember the fallen. The awe and a wonder part of the ceremony was the deer that gracefully crossed through the cemetery lawn right before the introduction of the ceremony then the ceremonial release of the homing pigeons to honor our fallen soldiers which were released just behind where I and my husband were sitting. So it was quite breathtaking indeed. Of course, the salute with the Menomonie Honor Guard firing their rifles followed by Taps with trumpet player, Jonathan Foslid of Menomonie High School always hits me emotionally. As Greg Quinn, a Dunn County Veterans Service Officer read the roll call of the 2022 Dunn County deceased veterans, I could not help thinking about my late grandfather, Allen Moser who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was not that far from where Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. Then there is my husband's late father, Leonard Christianson who also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he rescued and saved a Japanese pilot that crashed onto the runway of the U.S. Navy ship where he was stationed. It takes a lot of sacrifice, courage and strength to not just serve in a strange foreign country or a foreign sea to protect those that are being threatened by the enemy but not knowing whether you will die, live or be injured during active duty of service. That in itself can be mentally, physically and emotionally taxing. So with that, our brave men and women who have either fallen or become injured during active duty of service in our U.S. military deserve our time in honoring and remembering their service to our Country, the Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave, the last beacon of hope we call the United States of America 🇺🇸
Nothing like a Sunday afternoon drive into the beautiful Knapp Hills. It was so lovely to see all the trees in full bloom of lush, green leaves taking shape and seeing wildflowers mixed in with the grass upon the hillside. Ah, Yes! Summer is in the air! And with Memorial weekend behind us you can say summer time with lots of fun times ahead of us has officially kicked into gear. I was able to capture some pictures of the Knapp Hills countryside during our travels. Enjoy the tranquility of the beautiful Knapp Hills!
Enjoy the great vastness of the beautiful landscapes of the summer in Dunn County with family and friends😎
